Here in the Northwest, we sort of skipped right into arctic weather this week. I’ve noticed that I tend to get into a small snit the first time it suddenly gets really cold like this in the Fall (it was a balmy 11 degrees this morning). I’ve noticed it’s not just me either. I think the frigid Fall weather has brought out some bad humor in others as well.
Almost everyone I know is either in a funk, grumpy, or getting sick. I’m realizing that every year I tend to get surly just about the time I have to swap t-shirts for turtlenecks in my dresser drawers. That time would be now. I did huge amounts of laundry and all my summer garb has been stowed away in big plastic under-bed containers for winter.
The thing that’s sort of odd is that once I face the reality of wearing turtlenecks and flannel for the next six months, I get over it. Fortunately, I don’t have to dress to impress. I can dress to be warm. So no one is forced to see exactly how ugly the quilted flannel shirt is that I’m wearing or exactly how ratty my hot pink fingerless gloves look as I type merrily along.
I’m feeling warm and content sitting here surrounded by my four furry canines, so I guess my Fall funk must be lifting 😉
