A week ago I cleaned my office. Now you can’t tell. The piles of papers everywhere are really bringing me down. In fact, most of this week, I’ve been in sort of a snit I guess. It must be November. It’s officially cold, the days are short, but it’s not really winter yet. Every year around this time, I get grumpy.
I think of this seasonal snit as my "turtleneck pout." Since I have a very small chest of drawers, I can’t fit both my winter and summer clothes in my dresser. So twice a year, I need to swap out t-shirts for turtlenecks. Last weekend was the great switchover (yes, I’m wearing a turtleneck even now).
Around the time I have to swap out my t-shirts for the turtlenecks, the seasonal snit descends. Apparently, my emotional state deteriorates due to the onset of cold weather. I’m not sure why, but it always feels colder at the beginning of the winter season than at any other time, even though meteorologically, that obviously isn’t the case. Maybe I just need time to learn how to thermoregulate again.
Fortunately, my snit doesn’t generally last very long because I (finally) adjust to the colder weather, and the holidays arrive to perk up my spirits. (Yes, there are only 35 shopping days left until Christmas!)
