Recently, I took all four dogs to the vet to get their teeth cleaned. On a Thursday, I took the two white dogs (Cami and Leto), and the following Friday I took the two colorful dogs (Leia and Tika).
As most people probably know, canine teeth cleaning is not a small undertaking because the vet has to give the dog anesthesia, so the hound snoozes through the experience. Meanwhile, the vet gets into the dog’s mouth with tools and scrapes all the nasty tartar and other yucky stuff off the teeth. (Some things it’s just better for the dog not to know about.) Because the dogs needed time to wake up after the procedure, they had to stay all day at the vet. We live about 45 minutes out of town, so there was a lot of driving time back and forth.
Fortunately, all went well and all canines are just fine. They have much prettier teeth and much better breath. In fact, they seemed to be completely unphased by the whole experience. From the canine perspective, probably the best news was that the vet gave us samples of some special “teeth cleaning” treats/dog food. I didn’t think much about it, but now after every meal, each dog has to sit to get the special treat. Those treats have become a BIG deal in their world.
Of course, because I’m a worrywart when it comes to my dogs, it was a long two days for me. Instead of working, I spent much of both days staring into space fretting about my dogs until it was time to pick them up in the afternoon. Sure, I didn’t get much accomplished, but lets face it, some things are way more important than work and computers.
