Today, the satellite has gone out for reasons unknown. The sad reality of satellite broadband is that several things have to be working for you to get Internet access. Assuming your dish is set up correctly, first, your weather needs to be decent. Second, the weather over the network operations center (NOC) needs to be decent. The NOC is in Maryland, and as a general rule, I really don’t know or care much about what the weather is doing 2,000 miles away. Sunspots are another thing that wipe out satellite signals about twice a year.
In any case, the bottom line is that sunspots and weather are completely out of my control. The weather is going to do what it’s going to do without any regard for my workload or deadlines. (If I had any control over the weather, we certainly would not have had more than six weeks of gray weather here; I feel like a mushroom.)
We’ve been working really hard lately and I’m thinking that the satellite may be trying to tell me something. Life is short. I have no broadband, and it’s actually not snowing right now. The sun is trying to peek through the clouds, so today may finally be a good day to go skiing.
Yes, I really do think that IS what it’s saying. So if it seems like the musings are a bit short today, blame it on the satellite. I need a ski day 😉
