Sometimes you’re too high.
Sometimes you’re too down.
It’s just a state of mind.
– Jeff Lynne, ELO (Zoom)
I think I’m having some type of low biorhythm day. Probably it’s just part of human nature, but some days everything just seems way harder than it should be for no particular reason. Comments that you’d normally brush off without a thought plague you for hours, and it feels like pretty much the whole world is just way too complicated.
Unfortunately that’s my state of mind today.
The bad news is that when you’re an UberGrump like I am at the moment, writing is particularly challenging. As is often the case, I had 8 articles due today and frankly, I just wasn’t in the mood.
The thing is that when you write for a living, you have to write even when you don’t want to write. I think of it as “brain exhaustion” when writing becomes a fight. I mean, things are going well and I’m not really unhappy, just mentally tired, so I feel like I’m in a war with my brain to get something (anything) written.
Sometimes exercise helps with brain exhaustion, and since I had all these articles due, I exercised this morning even though I really didn’t want to. Yuck. I came to the depressing conclusion that I had to suck it up and get on with it, no matter how annoyed I was about the work I had to do.
Although I try not to sink into these quagmires of negative thinking too often, fighting brain exhaustion definitely brings me down. As Jeff Lynne says, “you’re really only living in a state of mind,” but I’m ready for this one to just go away.
TGIF 😉
