About three times a week, I exercise. This morning was one of those days. It’s interesting to see the canine and feline response to music. For example, Cami the wooly white dog, pretty much hates all music. Sometimes if we play mellow music softly, she’ll continue to hang around. But when I exercise, I tend to listen to loud obnoxious music. Cami heads to the downstairs bathroom until the hideous noise is over.
The other dogs don’t seem to particularly care about music per se. However, they are relatively tuned into our response to it. If we start dancing around, Leia, especially will really get into it. I’ve read and watched videos of "canine freestyle" dancing, i.e. dogs that dance with their owners, and it’s totally cool. Leia would love it.
The cats seem to have a more visceral response to music. Rock and roll often makes them weird. When I start exercising, the cats are frequently sleeping. It’s morning, and hey, they’re cats. That’s what they do. The music starts and then they wake up. They start wandering around.
Then the spaz begins.
This morning, a huge feline confrontation occurred on the kitty tree, which involved much zooming and chasing. There was also a really incompetent moment of kitty klutziness, but we’ll try not to dwell on that. Suffice it to say that the less-than-agile feline was sufficiently mortified that she had to go stalk off behind the sofa and clean herself to regain some semblance of dignity.
Anyway, the good news is that with the notable exception of Cami, the animals seem to enjoy the exercise program. Maybe we’ll all lose some weight.
