Over the last week or so, the sun has finally arrived. You could practically feel the collective sigh of relief as Sandpoint residents finally said goodbye to the dreary weather and mud season.
Today, yet another sign of spring arrived at our house: the tree swallows are back and swooping all around the yard. Although they are beautiful and fun to watch, in the back of my mind, I’m also thinking that all this swooping means they are hunting and the bugs won’t be far behind. Tree swallows eat mosquitoes, so you know if the birds are here, their dinner probably is too.
This afternoon, in fact, I was happily computing away when the first carpenter ant fell off of the ceiling and thumped down into my light fixture. Sadly, this happens every year. The flying carpenter ants have a habit of crawling around in the light diffuser. Yes, it’s gross, but at least I’m now completely sure it’s really spring.
