Today I had a particularly annoying day in Photoshop. It just wasn’t doing what I wanted it to. In any case, I got so wrapped up in it that I’m now sending this out somewhat later in the day than I might have hoped. So it goes…
This week we introduce a new column from LEI’s lead programmer James Byrd. It’s called Doing Business on the Web and contains excerpts from courseware for a new class he’ll be teaching on July 26. Lots of people say they know about e-commerce, but how many people do you know that have not only integrated shopping cart software, but have actually written a shopping cart from scratch? Needless to say, in his travails, James has learned a lot about the ins and outs of designing sites that work.
In not really nerdy news, I found a cool Web site this week, PrintingForLess (http://www.printingforless.com/). After 12 or 13 years of being a pariah for doing graphic design work on the PC and NOT a Macintosh, it’s heartening to see a Web site for an offset printer that really *gets* the fact that it doesn’t matter what computer you use. We all have to get stuff printed and these guys say they can do 4-color printing from files from almost any software, even Word and Publisher. I haven’t tried them out, but their prices are good and the idea of a printer NOT whining about my "weird" PC files really appeals.
