Today’s facinating North Idaho weather event is "snain"…or it’s more official term "semi-frozen precipitation." Whatever it is, it’s nasty, cold and soggy out there. Sometimes it’s good to be inside with four furry dogs and a warm computer. I think there may be a hot toddy in my future too.
This week has been a busy one. Businesswise, we’ve had a number of phone calls from folks wanting web site work, macros, and other nerdy stuff. Meanwhile the feline division has been occupying themselves by chasing stink bugs all over the house. Stink bugs are technically pine beetles, which are very large, clumsy, slow moving, buzzing beetles that make a concerted effort to move inside every fall. Just about everyone I know, however, calls them stink bugs because when you squish them, they stink.
As any cat owner will tell you, generally felines will hunt and eat bugs. It’s sort of a handy thing and keeps them entertained. However, stink bugs are so disgusting that they offend even OUR cats. When Alia, the older cat, finds a stink bug, she sits and stares at it. Troi, the younger and much hungrier cat, touches the bug with a paw, and gets a completely offended expression on her face. She sniffs her paw and tries to clean it. But then the bug moves and she can’t help herself, she HAS to paw at it again. This process can go on for a very long time.
Sometimes the ole hunting instinct isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.
