This week was one of those weeks where it seemed like all I did was run around and work, but I don’t have that much to show for it, except a very messy desk. Part of my new paper collection is from the computer show in Spokane. Any time you go to a trade show like that, you always end up picking up tons and tons of handouts to read "later."
The trouble is that all those neat brochures usually end up sitting in a pile until you get sick of looking at said pile and do something with it. Either you put the stuff in your file cabinet, so you can look at it at some even more distant time in the future, or you take the more realistic approach and just heave the whole thing in the circular file. As I get older it seems like fewer and fewer things really rate filing in the file cabinets anymore. As long as a client or the IRS doesn’t care about a given piece of paper, I figure why should I?
One thing I *have* saved for years is recipes. When we became vegetarian, suddenly we had to put a little more thought into our cooking, so we subscribed to a number of vegetarian magazines. For the last 7 years or so, before I chuck old issues, I’ve ripped out recipes that look cool and put them into binders. This basically disorganized pile of recipes is a good idea generator when you have exactly NO idea what to make for dinner.
Over time, after we got better at cooking with "weird" vegetarian ingredients, we adapted lots of recipes for vegetarian use. A long time ago, we posted a few of our faves on the Logical Expressions web site, and even though they are buried deep in the site, people still find and enjoy them. So with that in mind, we decided to use our Publication Manager software to create a vegetarian recipe site. I’m still working on the graphics, but I’ve received a number of really great recipes from my relatives and am looking forward to sharing them online.
So stay tuned…
