For some of you, this week may have been a short one. I hope all you lucky folks had a great President’s Day off. We didn’t take it off, which is a shame because that may have been the last decent day for skiing in a long time. Today, most of the lifts at the local ski resort were closed due to winds. The drizzly, dreary weather doesn’t make skiing a really appealing prospect anyway.
This week, we did our third radio show. The topic was digital photography and we had a guest from a local photography store. Before the show, we always research the topic. Even though I have a digital camera, I never knew exactly how they work. If you are curious, check out the site: www.howstuffworks.com. Their article on digital cameras is really interesting. I learned quite a bit about what a digital camera is really up to when you press the button. (Be warned however, it’s really easy get sidetracked and spend a LOT of time at the How Stuff Works site.)
In other news, James has been busily mapping out his first .NET project. For those who don’t know, .NET is basically Microsoft’s new development platform, which was released last week. It replaces all the old versions of Microsoft’s various programming languages, such as Visual Basic, C++, etc. Now, for example, Visual Basic is VB .NET, as opposed to VB version 7. So, there are big changes afoot in the developer community.
As with any big change, there’s has been a lot of grumbling about it. I’ve found that a lot of programmers really hate change and dealing with new software. (No, this irony isn’t lost on me!) In my many years of tech writing, James is one of the few programmers I’ve dealt with who actually gets excited about learning new stuff. So he’s having all kinds of fun playing with his new "toys."
Meanwhile, I got some cool new graphic design books for my birthday. So everyone is happy.
