Both James and I have offices in the basement of our house. There is a hallway that separates them. We both have baby gates that we use to keep the dogs out of our offices when necessary.
Of course most of the time while we’re working, the gates are down and our office floors are littered with canines. It’s interesting to see the doggie office dynamics. Often I end up with the white dogs in my office while James has the black dog and the gold dog snoring away in his office.
One thing that is consistent is that Leto the Large White Dog is wherever I am. If I walk into James’ office, he follows me. If the gate is closed, he stands outside and stares at me while I talk to James. When I go back to my office, Leto follows me back and returns to a spot on the floor. (He sort of personifies that old saying about “following you around like a puppy.”)
The other three dogs aren’t quite as interested in what I’m up to as Leto is and rarely stir, except when it gets close to feeding time. Then everyone is very, very interested in what I’m up to. Before lunch today, I went back and forth between our offices putting stuff away. All four dogs marched behind me as I went back and forth.
It was quite a crowd and it prompted James to say, “you have a following.” I can take comfort in the fact that I may never be famous, but yes, I do have a following.
