This was a big week for Logical Expressions because we released our first client software application. As most people have figured out, we write a lot. So James came up with a software program to make some of our writing projects easier. It’s called IdeaWeaver.
We’re calling IdeaWeaver a “content designer” because just like a layout tool lets you organize a design, IdeaWeaver lets you organize your written content. If you’ve ever spent a lot of time (and frustration) using Word’s outline tool, you probably noticed that if you have a large project, or lot of background or reference material, it becomes incredibly cumbersome to use.
In addition to using it for large projects, we’re also finding that IdeaWeaver is a great place to stuff all those ideas you don’t really know what to do with yet. I tend to come up with article ideas at odd times (like when I’m supposed to be working on something else). Now I just leave IdeaWeaver open and dump in an idea so I don’t forget it.
James has been using IdeaWeaver as his personal nerd “Knowledgebase.” He’s really good at figuring stuff out, but later he forgets and then has to figure stuff out over again. He used to have big binders where he’d write down information, but IdeaWeaver is a lot easier.
Because the software is so new, we’re not quite sure how people will use it. We had to get it done by the first week of May so it could go into Microsoft platform testing. We’re hoping that more people (especially writers) will try it out and tell us what they’d like to see next. (Hey, it doesn’t cost anything to try it out, so why not?)
To increase awareness, we’re also considering doing a contest with BIG prizes. As a former English major, the idea of any type of “literary” writing contest makes me ill, since I wouldn’t want to read the entries. But if you’ve ever seen a really fun writing contest (or have an idea for one), please let me know about it!
