Because it’s the day after a national holiday here in the United States, little work was done today. I know I didn’t do much. However, I shipped out a few books and took photos for our holiday cards.
As some people know, for the last few years, I’ve sent out cards with a picture of our wooly white dog Cami in the snow. (She’s also the cover model for our new Happy Hound book; you can see her smiling face at http://www.happyhoundbook.com.)
Although she is extremely photogenic, Cami is also a willful little canine. Photographing her can be a bit challenging, especially because she absolutely loves snow. We got our first big snow this week, so she is beside herself with glee. That level of enthusiasm means she has to alternate between sitting still for a few photographs, then a bit of snow rolling. Then a few more photos, and so on.
Generally, I go outside first with all my various props, the camera, and an extra battery. I bring a piece of plastic and put all my goodies in a reasonably sheltered spot. (When Cami really gets rolling, the snow flies everywhere, so it’s good to keep the technology covered.) Then I bring out Cami and get down in the snow with her. I just keep clicking the shutter and hoping for the best.
In the end, everybody wins. I get my photos, and Cami has a bunch of fun time in the snow. Plus, I think this years’ holiday card will be a really cute one 😉
