When your birthday is two days before Valentine’s Day, you tend to get gypped out of that holiday celebration. My husband is always quick to point out that "every day is Valentine’s Day," which admittedly is an extremely good answer, but still Valentine’s Day really hasn’t gotten much fanfare at our house over the years.
That’s why I’m so excited that this year, we actually are going to do something special to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The nice folks at Western Pleasure Guest Ranch called the other day and invited James (and me) to one of their February events as a thank you because James helped them save one of their barns.
On his way home one night a few weeks ago, James noticed smoke coming out of a barn located near the county road. Thinking that was odd, he turned around to go check it out. When he got closer, he saw flames, and zoomed up to the lodge to tell someone. A bunch of people ran down with fire extinguishers and put out the fire, which fortunately hadn’t spread to the roof or any of the equipment in the barn.
I’m sure Mister Modest will be embarrassed that I related the story. But fires that don’t happen don’t make the news. In any case, James scored many good karma points. And I get a great dinner this month.
