Happy 2003! I hope everyone had a happy, safe, and fun time welcoming in the new year (I could really get used to this four-day work week thing).
Our New Year’s Eve was marked by a lack of electricity. There was a huge snow storm and James decided not to brave the roads into town. I was mighty glad to have him here because we had a power outage that lasted from about 9:30 am to about 6:30 pm. We ran our computers off the generator util about noon, but then we gave it up. It was a pretty serious storm. We took the doggies out that afternoon and they paddled hard through the drifts. Even with *snowshoes* on, I went in up to my knees.
The furry team definitely loves the snow. We call their approach to deep snow "porpoising" because they look like dolphins as they leap up and forward (if you have a dog and snow, you know what I mean). The spastic gold dog, Tika is particularly amazing. Because she is so springy, she often "blazes" the trail through the deepest parts of the snowy path.
The other amusing aspect to walking hounds is that when the snow is really fresh and deep, it gets stuck in the hair feathers on their rear legs. Over the course of the walk, the small clumps of snow evolve into serious snowballs, or what we refer to as "snow diapers." By the end of the walk the other day, Tika was waddling because she had an 8-inch snowball attached to her <ahem> "rear end."
In more nerdy news, I finally finished updating the Macintosh version of my online training class. So now I can move on to working on some of our sites. I’ve got big plans, so I’ll be spending some serious quality time with HTML and Photoshop in the new year.
