This week’s musings are going to be even less nerdy than usual. Last week, James was sick; this week I’m sick. Head colds are a monumentally boring thing and I’m feeling pretty dull at the moment. I’ve drunk so much tea, I feel like I’m floating away.
Now that he’s restored to health (more or less) James has made huge strides on a number of large programming projects. And while not diligently nerding, he even spent some quality time on the tractor removing the copious quantity of soggy snow from the road and driveway. The snow blower does not exactly work at peak efficiency with this type of heavy snow, so it was a major accomplishment.
In fact, the snow removal project was so successful, the UPS man even made it part way up the driveway to deliver the Amazon.com order we’ve been anxiously awaiting.
Here in the hinter lands we know the road is okay when the UPS drivers don’t balk at attempting to get to the house. These guys are very sensitive about hanging branches, slush, mud and other unpleasant environmental effects that could damage those big brown trucks.
This statement is not a criticism of UPS, mind you, just a barometer of relative road quality. After all, most of the winter, I’m quietly amazed anyone comes up here at all. As my father pointed out when he visited us, "getting here is not half the fun."
