It’s pretty quiet as I sit here writing away, but with four dogs in the house, odds are pretty good that sooner or later some canine is going to be making some revolting noise somewhere soon.
My desk faces the wall and the hounds tend to hang out on the carpet behind my chair. Even though I can’t see them, I can hear them. I can report that when a long-haired dog has an itch in particularly private places, it apparently takes some serious snorfling to get through the fur and find the offending patch of itchy skin.
Even now, I hear Cami’s particular snorfle-slurp as she tidies up some body part. After years of cohabitation, it’s easy to tell which hound is making the disgusting noise without even turning around.
Leia, the black dog tends to be methodical in all things. Listening to her get a drink of water is like some kind of sound torture. Slurp. Pause. Slurp. Pause. Slurp. She cleans herself in much the same methodical way.
It’s amazing how close we get to our pets. Like any other family member you live with, you get to know what your pets look, sound, and smell like at all times of day or night. And hey, depending on the dog or human, that can sometimes be a sort of gross thing.
But we love them anyway 😉
