Last week, those of you who are AOL subscribers undoubtedly didn’t get Logical Tips or any of our other ezines. Due to a problem too nerdy to even go into, AOL decided not to play nice with our e-mail. As always, prior issues are available online at http://www.logicaltips.com, however. As far as I can remember, we haven’t missed sending out Logical Tips on any Friday since we started it four years ago. So if you ever don’t get it, check the site. Then check your filters; it might have been munched.
Of course, after the AOL problem, this week I’m having an intermittent problem sending to a friend’s Hotmail address. I can send lots of e-mail anywhere else, but not to Hotmail. Sometimes. One time Hotmail plays nice, other times it doesn’t. So today I am sort of dreading sending out my ezines. The whole process is once again starting to bring me down. Plus, I keep reading more dire industry articles how email is only going to get worse and now it’s even starting to affect ecommerce. I mean how can Amazon or any other ecommerce site sell stuff if they can’t get an e-mail through for your receipt?
As part of this e-mail malaise, I’m also researching new e-mail mailing list providers. Although it may not sound like it sometimes, when I gripe and carp about all the email badness out there, we are really committed to trying to bring our subscribers good information. So my research goes on.
The good news is that changing how we send out our ezines may mean that we’ll be able to do nifty stuff like easily offer an HTML version with graphics and analytics and all that good stuff that tells you whether anyone actually gets or reads what we send.
In the meantime, thanks for reading. If anyone has recommendations on good software or services to send out legitimate newsletters to e-mail lists, I’m all ears 😉
