A sunny day after a big cleansing rain is always a beautiful thing. Today we’re having one of those days and it makes me remember why we moved here. The blue sky and fluffy clouds are really gorgeous.
Unfortunately, not all of this week has been quite so nice, thanks to the grass growers down south who every year pollute the skies with smoke when they burn their fields. This antiquated practice gets more and more controversial every year…and for good reason. People with respiratory problems tend to get sick or die. Complaint calls and lawsuits abound.
Tuesday was the worst smoke day I’ve seen in years. That was the day I was out and about dealing with my car windshield. Most people around here have cracks or chips in the windshield of their car. It’s part of life here. My windshield also had tiny droplets of stain on it left over from when we stained the garage. It wasn’t worth getting fixed because none of the problems were really that bad. But while we were driving home one night on a gravel coated road, the poor long-suffering windshield got seriously whacked with a rock. The resulting crack was headed all the way across the glass. So it was time to get it replaced.
While I was waiting for my car at the auto glass place, the sky got darker and darker. I’m normally not sensitive to air quality, but I have to say, I started to feel pretty weird. It was good to return up here to the hills where the air was a little cleaner. And the drive home was really exciting. Egad…a new windshield is the next best thing to getting new glasses! I can REALLY see now.
In mildly more nerdy news, James was on the radio the other day talking about LEI. The local AM talk radio station has a business report and they called up and said, "come on down." So with a mere two hours notice, he hustled down for the show.
I was impressed because James had a very low "um" factor. Speaking as the queen of "um," I don’t know how he does it. As it turns out, we actually can’t get AM radio on our stereo because we don’t have the right antenna, so we all sat outside in the cars and listened. It was like an impromptu tailgate party. So, all in all, it was quite an automotive week.
