Many software products put a lot of entries into the Start menu when they are installed. If you have a lot of software, your Start menu can turn into one big morass of stuff you never use. Fortunately, it’s really easy to clean up. You can do it in two ways.
You can rearrange most Start menu entries just by dragging and dropping the item to a new location. The cursor turns into a bar, so you can see where the item will be placed. When you get to the right spot, release your mouse button. You also can delete entries you don’t need by dragging off the menu and into the Recycle Bin. Or you can just right-click the entry and choose Delete.
If your Start menu is a complete disaster area, you may want to create new folders and really tidy up. In that case, it’s generally easier to use the Taskbar Properties dialog box. Right click the Taskbar at the bottom of your screen and choose Properties. Click the Start Menu Programs tab and click the Advanced button. This opens up a window that looks and operates just like Windows Explorer. You can make new folders and add, remove, and rearrange items using the same techniques you use to manage your document files and folders.
With only a little organizational effort, you can create a more efficient Start menu that has the items you actually use on it.
