This week, we had the opportunity to take other people on the trails we have cut through our 20 acres of forest. Obviously, we wander around on our trails all the time, but it’s always interesting to see your property through other peoples’ eyes. Everyone always marvels at how pretty our forest is. Because it’s a cedar-hemlock forest, it’s somewhat moister and denser than the forests you find in other nearby areas, which are mostly ponderosa pine.
When you live and work here every day, sometimes you forget that most people only get to come here for vacation. Many of our neighbors are retired and moved here from the big city to “get away from it all” Realistically, because we work out of our house, our lifestyle isn’t too different from some of our retired neighbors. We just have a lot more time at the computer thrown in with our recreation time.
This afternoon, we ditched work for a while to go have lunch and run a bunch of errands in town. All the fall colors are starting to appear and the weather was just glorious. Wandering around downtown was really pleasant. The tourists are largely gone and the pace has slowed back down.
Anyway, I’m glad we took the leap to move up here when we did. Life is uncertain, and I’m thankful I didn’t have to wait for retirement to enjoy this lifestyle.
