This week’s big news is that the new Fall issue of Computor Companion is online. As always, a big thank you to all our authors.
I actually was out of the office most of this week, which means of course that today was a truly dreadful day. For one thing, it’s totally rainy and dreary outside. All day, I have had one of those sort of low-grade background headaches that come from big weather changes.
Aggravating my bad humor was the need to fire a client. For those of you who have never owned a business, let me assure you that the old adage that “the customer is always right” isn’t the complete story. Sometimes trying to keep a client is a disservice to you and to them. I mean, I’m a sympathetic person, but this is business, and a level of professionalism is required.
When someone stands you up for meetings, literally cries on phone calls, and tries to blame everything and everyone else for their problems, clearly the business relationship isn’t working. In cases like this, there is NO way the client will ever be happy, so the best course of action for both of you is to cut your losses and just refund whatever money you’ve collected.
After all, there will be other clients, so the money is replaceable. Your sanity is not.
