I can safely say that one of my favorite places in Sandpoint is the library. For those of us who have lived here for a while, it’s still the "new" library, even though it’s been in its current location on Cedar Street for a number of years now.
Today I called the library to because I need to do some research on a long-time Sandpoint business. I come from a long line of librarians and bookstore owners, so I’m biased, but I tend to think librarians are some of the nicest people around. Where else other than the library can you have someone look up stuff for you for free?
Anyway, we were talking about various library programs and she pointed out that a lot of information is on the library’s Web site at: http://www.ebcl.lib.id.us/ebcl/default.htm
Given that I work on Web sites for a living, I felt like kind of a dolt when I realized that gee, I could have looked up the books I was after myself because the entire catalog of the library is online. It’s the next best thing to being there. The site also has access to the LiLi databases, which contain full-text articles from thousands of magazines and newspapers. If you’re a research nut, this resource is just incredible.
Oh and for cheapskate readers like me who like a good deal on reading material, check out the Friends of the Library book sales on the first Saturday of every month. The next one should be on February 5th.
I think that might just be a good day to return my stack of library books 😉
