This week has been decidedly non-nerdy; in fact, we even ventured out of our offices to enjoy the great outdoors. The other day on one of these excursions, we were wandering around town and stopped to look at pretty pictures that had been hung in the window of a real estate office. We were musing about the cost of real estate when a large fluffy white dog pressed her snout up to the window and uttered a big “woo” sound.
We have a Samoyed mix at home, and if you aren’t familiar with Samoyeds, one of their most endearing traits (along with their incredibly soft fur) is the ability to woo. It’s not quite a howl and it’s definitely not a bark. To us, this roo-woo noise is just plain adorable. The sign on the door said the real estate office was open, but the door was locked. The Samoyed inside was wooing and wagging so enthusiastically we hated to leave. But since we couldn’t do anything else, we waved and smiled at the dog and left. We promised to come back so we could pet her properly.
The next day, we stopped by and the door was open. The realtor eagerly asked if he could help us. Of course, we were just looking for the dog. He said, “Oh you mean Mogul; sorry, she’s not here today.”
Thwarted in our mission to pet fabulous Samoyed fur, we continued on our walk. We headed up a trail and were walking along a creek where we saw a woman and her child sitting on the bank. Standing in the creek was a Samoyed panting and smiling. We stopped and asked the woman if the dog was in fact Mogul and explained that we had wanted to meet the dog.
Mogul splashed out of the creek and leaped up the bank. We petted her and she enjoyed herself immensely. Sometimes the universe aligns and when you most need to pet a friendly dog, there she is right in front of you.
