This week has been eventful for Logical Expressions sites. Because of a mention by the BBC (yes, the British Broadcasting Corporation) many, many people visited our Computor Companion magazine site. From there, many of them clicked over to our Logical Tips site and subscribed. So a big welcome to all our new subscribers from “across the pond.” I hope you enjoy the newsletter!
In other more local news, readers in the Inland Northwest may have noticed that my column now appears in the Spokesman Review. This change also means that after six years, my column no longer will be in the Coeur d’Alene Press on Sundays. The bad news is that the Spokesman doesn’t want to run it every week, unless there is “demand” for it. So if you are a subscriber and like the column, please let them know. I do write the tips every week, and you are always sure to get every one (no matter what the newspaper does) if you subscribe to this Logical Tips newsletter.
To be honest, I have had mixed emotions about switching newspapers. On the one hand, I got many kudos when clients and friends saw my first Spokesman column. On the other hand, over the years, a lot of Press readers have written in to tell me that they actually have carefully cut out all my columns from the newspaper and saved them. As a writer, it really warms my heart to think that someone went to so much trouble to keep my column for posterity.
Not surprisingly, after the first Spokesman column ran, I also got my first, “why don’t you write about Macintoshes?” email. Anyway, since we have a lot of new readers, my response probably bears repeating here too…
“I was using a Mac in 1985 (a 128K!), so I definitely don’t have anything against Macintoshes. Unfortunately, I don’t have a very new one now. My G3 has OS9 on it, which is useless at this point for writing any reasonably current articles.
Unfortunately, like a lot of people, I can’t afford to pay to keep upgrading software and hardware for two operating systems, so the Mac has had to fall by the wayside. I just spent $372 to upgrade my Macromedia (aka Adobe) Studio, for example. For almost 400 clams, I got a tiny box with just two CDs in it. Talk about unsatisfying…no manuals, no real jewel case, or even a flyer advertising something.
Anyway, until someone decides to give me a screaming new Mac with all the latest software, I have to stick to writing about Windows.”
‘Nuff said 😉
