When we first got our brand spanky new Windows XP machine, I thought the little pictures next to the User Names were cute. My user account image has been set to a little picture of a tabby cat, which coincidently looks like one of our feline cohabitants. My husband has the totally boring snowflake picture for his user account. (Hey, there’s no accounting for taste.)
Anyway, recently I discovered that you can change your user account picture to ANY picture, including one of your own. If you have a digital camera, you probably have thousands of images to choose from. Not surprisingly, I decided I wanted a picture of one of MY pets in there instead of someone else’s cat.
Having your own picture appear next to your account name is easy. Just follow these steps.
1. Choose Start|Control Panel and double click User Accounts.
2. Select the user account you want to change.
3. Click Change the picture and click Browse for more pictures to locate the picture you want on your hard disk.
4. When you find the picture, click Open.
The screen returns to the user account and you can see how your picture looks. If you don’t like it, just click Change my picture again and try another one. The pictures are quite tiny, so it helps if you can find a rather simple image.
I used a close-up picture of Cami, the fuzzy white dog, for my husband’s account. The next time he uses my computer, he’ll get a little surprise. I’m sure he will like the change since Cami is definitely HIS dog.
