The other day I was called over to a computer to assist in a somewhat odd problem. Thanks to some creative clicking and dragging, the computer user (who shall remain nameless) had moved her Taskbar to a very odd place. And she couldn’t get it back where she wanted it at the bottom of the screen because there wasn’t enough Taskbar left to click on easily.
Here’s the problem: you can click and drag the Taskbar to move it to the top, right, or left side of your screen. If you click and drag near the edge, the cursor changes to a two-headed arrow, so you can resize it. Trouble ensues, however, if you accidentally move the Taskbar to a place where you can’t easily grab it with your mouse.
Fortunately, you can use your keyboard to put your Taskbar back where it belongs. First, press the Windows key (it’s the one with the Windows logo on your keyboard). This key brings up the Start menu. Or if you have an older keyboard, press the Ctrl+Esc key. Now press the Esc key, which causes the Start menu to disappear and leaves the Taskbar selected. Now press Alt+spacebar, which brings up a menu that includes a command called Size. Use your arrow keys to highlight Size and press Enter. Now your cursor changes to a four-headed arrow. Again, using the keyboard, press the up or down arrow key until you see a line across your screen. This is the point to where your Taskbar is being resized. When the line is somewhere you can see it easily, press Enter or click your mouse.
The Taskbar will be positioned so you can easily click and drag it easily back to the right place and make it the right size again. Once again, order will be restored to your computing universe.
