After a lot of weird weather, it’s finally settled into summer. The squash are starting to look large in the garden and it’s been hot. Today I think it was in the 90s "downtown" although it rarely gets that warm up here in the trees.
However, it was toasty enough for James to put the Bear Pool out in the kennel. With all that fur, our Samoyed mix Cami gets very hot in the summer. Her favorite way to cool off is to dunk her furry self into water. Since our house isn’t located on a lake, pond, or river, we bought her one of those cheapie blue plastic baby pools you can buy at Big-Box stores for about $10. Because we call Cami "The Bear," the ugly little blue pool was immediately dubbed the Bear Pool.
The Bear Pool was probably one of the best $10 we ever spent on Cami. After a walk through the forest, Cami anxiously stands at the kennel gate. As soon as we open the door, she charges in and splashes down in her pool. She circles the perimeter of the pool and then reclines with her head hanging over the side of the pool and her tongue lolling out of her mouth.
After about 35 seconds of reclining, Cami leaps up and out of the Bear Pool. Then she sidles over to some unsuspecting human or canine and shakes a mighty shake, spraying water everywhere.
Satisfied with a job well done, Cami then sleeps and waits for all that fur to dry. The term "it’s a dog’s life" does not necessarily refer to hard work.
